Ross Allen, Ph.D., HP

Dr. Ross Allen is a Senior Technology Specialist for the Imaging and Printing Group at HP. In 1981, Allen joined the original group of researchers at HP developing thermal inkjet and HP’s first color graphics printer. Since then, he has worked on almost all aspects of inkjet research and development, including numerical simulation of drop ejection, printhead design, testing and optimization, development of automatic test systems, new inks and ink delivery systems.

Working at HP’s central research laboratories since 1989, he managed the invention, and research and development of inkjet inks, pagewide inkjet printheads, the HP CapShare handheld document scanner, novel methods for desktop book and booklet making and advanced sensors for ultra-precise paper positioning, print media type identification and toner-level sensing. An internationally recognized technologist, he is named inventor on more than 28 U.S. patents for HP.

Allen has bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering.

As HP's LFP Industrial Solutions Vice President and General Manager, Yariv Avisar has responsibility for the LFP industrial products (HP Scitex). Responsibilities include R&D, Sales Marketing, Finance and Manufacturing.

Yariv comes to HP via Hong Kong, where he was leading the Large Format Printing Business for Asia Pacific since the end of 2005. Previous to this job since 2003, he was successfully managing the Scitex Vision business in Asia Pacific where his leadership and business skills helped double the revenues and become market leader in the region. He also was a key person in the integration of Scitex Vision Asia Pacific into HP. Before moving to Asia Pacific, Yariv was the head of the Scitex Vision’s consumables business, his first job at Scitex Vision when he joined the company in 2002.

Previous to Scitex Vision, Yariv was the WW Director Sales & Marketing of M-Systems – DiskOnKey (the first USB drive) and the Vice-President of Sales of the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronot.

Yariv is a native of Israel and has a bachelor of Business Degree, Marketing and International Marketing by Tel-Aviv Business Management College

Dr. Rich Baker is the Director of Business Development for Dimatix Technology Integration Group (DTI). DTI designs, manufactures and integrates custom printing systems for industrial end-user applications, incorporating Dimatix piezo inkjet technology into industrial printing, decorating and depositing applications. Baker has been with Dimatix for more than 11 years.

Steve Baker, GM Nameplate Inc.

Steve Baker is the National Sales Manager for Intaq products at GM Nameplate Inc. He joined GM Nameplate in 2004 as the Medical Business Development Manager, where he substantially increased the medical device component business before being tasked with the management responsibility for the company’s Intaq line of electronic-user, interface component and membrane switch products. He has spent 25 years in various segments of the membrane switch industry. Baker's previousexperience includes 18 years with Key Tronic Corp. In his time at Key Tronic, he worked extensively on PC keyboard technology for major OEMs (including IBM, AT&T, Compaq and NCR). Baker’s knowledge of the PC and Notebook computer markets includes project management, design and development and sales expertise. Additionally, Baker served for five years as Director of Sales for Conductive Rubber Technology in the elastomer industry.

Carl Baldwin has been an active screen-printer for over twenty years. In that period, he has encountered virtually hundreds of surface types and printing situations that have sharpened his skills. As a result, he has become an industry authority in the area of alternative surface printing. Carl is the owner of Falcon Graphics, Inc., and is majority partner of Embroidery By Design, Inc. Carl has authored or contributed to articles in Impressions, Screenprinting Magazine, SGIA Journal, and has spoken at previous SGIA shows. Dave Bartram is a 22 year veteran of the printing and imaging industries, with the last 5 spent in the industrial wide-format inkjet sector. Darrin Bonikowsky graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1991 with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree. He also studied at the University of British Columbia's Internet Publishing Program, graduating in 2000. He is trained in numerous computer languages and programs such as Visual Basic, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, DataEase, FoxPro, Oracle, ASP, Tango, CFML, HTML, SQL, XML, JavaScript, VBA, Perl, and Dreamweaver, and has over fifteen years of practical work experience overseeing and developing Web and personal computer applications and systems. Gordon Brown, New Vista Image

Gordon Brown is the Co-owner of New Vista Image. For the past 15 years, he has been a significant contributor to the large-format digital printing industry. Gordon and his wife, Ann, started New Vista Image in 2004, becoming the only company in a multi-state region with a Scitex VeeJet flatbed printer at the time. In 1973, Gordon Brown started his own screen printing and design firm before joining Lowen Corp., a national screen printing company. Under his management, Lowen Color Graphics grew to be one of the predominant producers of fleet graphics in the nation.

Tom Brown, Oryon Technologies Development

Tom Brown is a Chemical Engineer and graduate from Brigham Young University. He has worked in the semiconductor and electronics field for 24 years. His current position as Technical Director at Oryon has brought him into the electroluminescent industry. Brown is a past speaker at the Membrane Switch Symposium. To date, he has received four patents on EL and membrane switches.

Jeff Burton, SGIA

Jeff Burton, Digital Resource Specialist, DPI, has served as the Digital Imaging Specialist with DPIA/SGIA since 1998. He provides solutions to digital imaging production, computer and workflow issues as well as digital equipment/vendor recommendations. Jeff has developed classroom curriculum in the areas of Digital Pre Press for Large Format. His extensive background in digital imaging, electronic pre-press for print, professional photography and computers, serves members by supplying individualized solutions to their daily business problems. Jeff received his B.S. in Photographic Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology

Vince Cahill, President of VCE Solutions, provides consulting services for Fortune 500 and other companies operating in the analog and digital printing industries. He also is a Principal in The Colorworks, where he has a 25-plus year career in specialty graphics. Craig Campbell is the Product Applications Manager for ORACAL USA. Since March of 2004, his duties have included supervising research and product development, providing support services and promotions for the signage and digital print markets as well as managing strategic partnerships inside and outside of the sign industry. Richard Carlston has been working with color in the printing industry for over 20 years. Previously a sales manager for Hiller Industries Book Manufacturing division and vice president of sales for Publisher’s Distribution Center, Richard now works as the Global OEM Director for Wasatch Computer Technology. Jay M. Catral is a Sales and Applications Specialist, Radiometric Products and Solutions, for Konica Minolta Sensing Americas Inc. He has worked at Konica for 15 years, starting in the photo service division, transferring to Sensing ISD in 2002 and then to Sales and Applications Specialist in 2007. Part of his job has been to calibrate and repair Konica’s whole product line, from light meters and spectrophotometers to 3-D scanners. Mark A. Coudray is a well known industry writer and presenter. His 300+ articles and columns have appeared in every major publication both in the US and abroad. Coudray has been an active member of the Academy of Screen Printing Technology since 1989 and has been involved in SGIA for more than 30 years.

As an SGIA Board member, Coudray has served for 24 years as a Director and was Chairman of the Board in 2000. John Dillon is the Vice President of LasX Industries Inc. in St. Paul, Minnesota and a Co-founder of the company. He is responsible for the company's contract production group, which pursues applications in the electronics, medical diagnostic and graphic arts markets. He has Bachelor of Science degrees in manufacturing engineering and industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Dillon has focused 25 years of his career on the machine tool and industrial laser markets in the United States.

Jean Dilworth, Eastern Illinois University

Professor Jean Dilworth is recognized as an apparel and textile researcher and designer. She is a reviewer for textiles and apparel textbooks as well as research and design presentations. Dilworth serves on state and national secondary education standards committees for textiles, apparel and furnishings. Her research includes design and research presentations, publications and feature articles in professional journals, many in collaboration with the recently deceased Dr. Phil Age. She holds degrees in a teacher certification and theatre technical design.

Art Dobie is Manager of Screen Technology for Sefar Printing Solutions, Inc., Lumberton, NJ. He has been with Sefar 26 years since receiving his BS in Graphic Communications (specializing in Screen Printing Technology) in 1980 from California University of Pennsylvania. Art is a Life Member and a Fellow of the Society of IMAPS, and was the 2006 recipient of the IMAPS John A. Wagnon Technical Achievement Award for outstanding technical contributions to screen printing technology as related to microelectronics. Paul Drago, Application Specialist, Ulano Corporation After graduating with a BA degree in Advertising Art and Design from the State University of New York, Farmingdale. In 2000, Paul joined Ulano as an applications specialist. In addition to performing product testing and evaluations, he provides technical support to Ulano's distributors, sales managers, customers, Quality Control and Research & Development Departments. He continues to be active in SGIA, lending support to the Foundation, and serving as a judge for the annual Golden Image Competition.

Peter Duff, Silkscreen Industries of Canada

Peter Duff has been working for the Silkscreen Industries of Canada -- a large- and small-format graphics printing company that specializes in high-resolution graphics and four-color process images -- for the last 17 years. Duff's area of expertise has been in the prepress areas of the shop. His skills have often brought about the interest of mesh, emulsion and ink suppliers for his evaluation of their products. Duff has been referred to as “the technical lab of the North" by some of his suppliers.

This time was spent working with Emmy award winning music video director and movie director Spike Jonze. For the next ten years he was responsible for general management and art direction for S&M Bikes in the Bicycle Motocross (BMX) industry. Starting in the year 2000 he started up Green and Green Enterprises, a screen printing and graphic design company. Two years ago he came on board with AnaJet Inc which manufactures direct to garment printers, rip programs and related software. Ruff travels 45 weeks a year, providing productivity improvement consulting work in North America. He’s an internationally known speaker, author of many trade journal and magazine articles and member of SGIA's Academy of Screen Print Technology.

Scott Schinlever, Vice President and General Manager of Inkware for EFI/VUTEk, runs the company's ink business. Previously, he served as a division Vice President of Strategic Mareting for Xerox. Schinlever developed Xerox's strategy to expand its office color printing business, which resulted in the company's 1999 acquisition of Tektronix's color printer business. Schinlever, who also operates a small graphics software company, earned a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Economics from the University of California-Davis and Master of Business Administration from Duke University.
