ASPT Member Biography

Herman G. Haffner, Nor-Cote
Inducted into the Academy in 2005

Nor-Cote International CEO Herm Haffner has played an instrumental role in the world of ultraviolet curing, devoting much of his career to increasing printers’ acceptance and success with UV inks and radiation curing. In fact, Haffner (with fellow ASPT member Joe Raymond) advanced early research in the use of IR heat to accelerate and improve UV curing.

Haffner has been with Nor-Cote for a total of 10 years, from 1985–1993, and from 2003–present. As CEO, he’s been key in a patent license agreement to manufacture and sell a revolutionary line of UV curable conductive inks for the production of membrane switches, electro-luminescent lamps and radio frequency identification labeling systems. The inks will be instrumental in improving manufacturing efficiencies, increasing productivity and improving space utilization, and cutting expenses by reducing energy consumption, controlling emissions and reducing scrap and part failure due to silver migration. Haffner is also spearheading an effort to produce and market the 100 percent UV curable membrane switch and overlay as well as the 100 percent UV curable electroluminescent lamp.
