Guido Lengwiler
Inducted into the Academy in 2008
Guido Lengwiler was born in 1960 in Winterthur, Switzerland. From 1977 to 1982 he attended first the School for Arts and Crafts in Zurich and from 1980 Classes for Art with Franz Fedier in Basel. From 1983 to 1986, he was a screen printing trainee with Beatrice Spillmann in Zurich. Then he worked ten years as screen printer with Fred Birchler and Beatrice Spillmann in Zurich. Since 1993, he has taught screen printing at the Schools for Arts and Crafts, Screen Printing Department, in Berne. Guido became interested in photography and he experimented in 20 to 30 gray scale separations for screen printing.
In 1998, he began his work on the history of screen printing. The discovery of historical documents in Switzerland led to ten years of intensive research in Europe and in the USA. A first overview was published 2006 in the screen printing magazine "Siebdruck Infopost" in a series of eight articles. Guido lives in Basel and commutes to his class in Berne.
