Innovative Education Took Center Stage at Symposium

Event Highlighted the Growing Printing Industry

The 2009 Membrane Switch and Printed Electronics Symposium (May 5–7, Overland Park Convention Center, Kansas) brought together industry professionals from all over the country to explore the latest innovations, market trends and advancements driving this technical field.

“This year’s Symposium had an extremely impressive line-up of educational speakers and presentations covering topics that relate to all levels of technical printing,” said Ray Greenwood, SGIA’s Technical Services Associate.

Highlights included:

• An evaluation of printing conductive functional inks in flexographic, roll-to-roll and high-speed production environments.
• A report on photovoltaic product manufacturing and how it’s rapidly becoming a large-scale commercialization of printed organic semiconductor technology.
• A look at the expansion of printed electronics and its integration into various high speed applications.
• An overview of the history and development of computer to screen (CTS) technology and the current potential impact that the technology can have on production.
• A discussion of laser technologies for the removal of metallization, including the use of CO2, fiber/YAG and UV lasers.

In addition to a powerful educational program, attendees connected with many distributors and manufacturers at the exhibitor area, who demonstrated the latest technologies and applications of the membrane switch and printed electronics industries. The Symposium also held two exclusive plant tours at Nazdar and Preco Inc. company headquarters. Participants saw state-of-the-art production equipment, technical centers and digital demonstration areas.
