A Big Time in the Big Easy

America has many great cities; each with its own characteristics and personality. We can all appreciate the excitement of New York, the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas and the American tradition of Washington, DC.  But for me, and for many others in the SGIA community, New Orleans is something special.

Over the years, we’ve held our annual event in the Big Easy many times. We’ve come to know the French Quarter, the food, the music and the friendly “feel” of the city. The dramatic cancelation of our Exposition due to Katrina in 2005 strengthened our connection with the city. It gave us a different perspective. We realized the value of what we almost lost.

So many people in the SGIA community have told me that they are excited that we are going to New Orleans this year. Holding our big event there is our opportunity to be a part of the city’s success. We want to demonstrate our support.

I have the opportunity to visit New Orleans regularly. Each time I visit I am more impressed with the developments in the city. The French Quarter is clean and comfortable. The restaurants, bars and hotels are busy. The city planners have taken the strengths of New Orleans and made them better.  And one other thing, you’ll quickly learn that the people of New Orleans really appreciate the business we bring to the city. You won’t find a friendlier place than New Orleans.

To all those who are eager to enjoy New Orleans and contribute to the success of this important American city, I want to say that I share your enthusiasm. You are in for a real treat.

See you in the Quarter.
