In a recent interview, Richard Fairfax, Director of OSHA’s Directorate of Enforcement Programs, was asked about OSHA’s Top 10 Violations for 2008. Hazard Communication is No. 2 on the list this year, Lockout/Tagout, #5, and Powered Industrial Trucks, such as forklifts, #7. High on list of violations – failure to provide a written program and lack of training.

Asked why organizations continue to violate standards, Mr. Fairfax responded, “I think a lot of people may disagree with me, and my information is anecdotal, but from talking to inspectors and meeting with industry groups, I think the biggest issue is that employers cut corners.”
