Question: Imaging companies are increasingly looking for solutions that deliver results more quickly and effectively. Where does digital inkjet printing stand today and what can it offer?
Answer: For short runs, digital flatbed inkjet printing is much faster than an analogue system. At one time, printers used digital flatbed as an opportunity to acquire new work — unique applications that customers had not thought of before — because digital was not effective compared to traditional printing. However, sign shops now use it as a replacement technology for screen as well as offset, in some cases. It is price and quality competitive in longer run lengths; up to 200–500 large format pieces depending on the machine.
