Preparation Guidelines for Technical Papers

Subject

The Technical Paper must be written in English on a subject that is specific to the screen printing and digital imaging industry or related technologies, markets information, production management, or business management. It may deal with a method, a system, or a new development, or present case studies to illustrate industry trends and/or opportunities. The object of the paper is to convey information that will be read worldwide. Clarity of thought and discussion of points in a logical sequence is of utmost importance.

General Information

  • Authors must be knowledgeable on the subject of the paper. The subject information should be thoroughly researched and technical content must be reliable.
  • Use clear concise language; avoid obscure technical jargon, slang, or buzzwords whenever possible.
  • Define or identify all acronyms.
  • Direct comparisons with competitors' products should be avoided; articles are not to be a sales promotion. (Author your organization will get credit for the article in page 1 byline.)

Mechanical

  • Papers should be submitted via email-attached file, submitted to Dan Marx, managing editor of the SGIA Journal. The acceptable formats include Microsoft Word for Windows, Microsoft Word for Macintosh and ASCII format. Please call for exact specifications and assistance.
  • If you are not comfortable writing an article, but are technically versed on the subject, please consider submitting your ideas on audio tape. We will convert your article to print and send it back to you for your review before publication.
  • Title page should include the author's name and title, company name and address, and the title of the article.
  • Diagrams, line illustrations, graphs, and photographs are encouraged. If submitting in digital format, please provide and Illustrator, Freehand or Photoshop .eps file. Color is preferred. If submitting hard copy, please provide us with a copy that can be scanned (no photocopies and no larger than 8 1/2" x 11"). Photographs should be of sufficient size and resolution to allow for successful offset reproduction.

Other Information

  • Length of article should be a minimum of 2000 words.
  • Article should be accompanied by a brief author biography and a high-resolution, color photo of the author.
  • Conclude the Technical Paper with a summary of the major points of the paper.
  • Bullet and topic headings are acceptable.
  • All technical data should be supplied in metric and English measurement.
  • SGIA reserves unrestricted publication rights for any article selected for publication.
  • Unless otherwise specified by the author, SGIA reserves the right to repurpose photographs submitted with articles for use in other SGIA publications and/or industry publications.
