Fairfax, Virginia -- In an effort to help the printing industry establish more environmentally sustainable standards, SGIA has partnered with several trade groups to form the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP Partnership).
This sustainability work group includes voluntary participation from SGIA, the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation and the Flexographic Technical Association.
"Corporate sustainability is a huge issue for the specialty imaging industry," said Marci Kinter, SGIA's Vice President for Government and Business Information. "SGIA members are interested in knowing how they can incorporate sustainable practices, and we've responded by partnering with other trade groups to create practical and effective procedures."
The SGP Partnership has pledged to:
* Establish the print and graphic communications industry as the leader within the global economy for the adoption and promotion of sustainable business practices designed to reduce the industry sector's global impact.
* Promote participation in the worldwide movement of reducing the environmental impact from businesses and increasing the industry's social responsibility through sustainable green printing practices.
The SGP Partnership's initial plans include creating a credible registry of printing facilities that strive to operate with sustainable business practices.
"By partnering with other groups, we'll cut down on duplication in the registry and achieve better outreach to the printing and graphics community," said Kinter, who will moderate the Future Forum on corporate sustainability at SGIA '07 (Orlando, Florida; October 24-27, 2007). http://www.sgia.org/events/current_expo/sgia07/Conference/futureforums.cfm
