ASPT Student Best in Show Winners Awarded at SGIA ’07

Fairfax, Virginia — Joe Ellis of Walton High School and his instructor Dan Campagna won the Academy of Screen Printing Technology's Best in Show Student Award, secondary school division, for “311 Four-color Process with Underlay.”

Mayur Patil, Mayur Joshi, Sagar Kale and Shailesh Yeole of Dhirubhai Mistry Institute for Print Education, Technology, Research and Training, and their instructor Bhargav Mistry, took home the Best in Show Award for their piece, “Berlin Gate.”

The winners and their instructors earned the award after receiving a gold ribbon in the initial judging at SGIA ’07 in Orlando, Florida. Winners each received plaques and scholarships toward graphic arts education, and their instructors each received plaques and monetary awards for their respective graphic arts programs. A full list of ASPT winners can be found online at SGIA.org.

US Screen Print and Inkjet Technology sponsored the scholarships and cash prizes.

“The ASPT student competition is a great way for the Academy to help nurture and encourage a new generation of specialty imagers,” said Donald Marsden, ASPT Chairman.

Categories for textile substrates included single-color, multi-color: spot color, multicolor: index and simulated process and four-color process. The paper substrate category included single-color, multicolor and four-color process.

Categories for plastic, glass, metal or wood substrates included single-color, multicolor and four-color process, as well as a category for original serigraphs on any substrate. A digital category will be available for the ASPT student competition for SGIA ’08. (Atlanta, Georgia; October 15-18).

The competition is open to students of all secondary and post secondary schools that are members of SGIA, Federation of European Screen Printers Associations or Asia-Pacific Screen Printing & Graphic Imaging Association.
