Graphics Four-Color Process:
Controlling the Variables

Workshop Agenda (Acrobat PDF, 56KB)
Photo Documentary (Acrobat PDF, 132KB)

Instructors: Bron Wolff, Pratt Corporation; Mike Ruff, Nazdar Consulting; & Dawn Hohl, SPTF

Successful four-color process work requires the printer to maintain a high degree of control over a long list of variables in the areas of prepress, press, and even sales and purchasing. Participants will discuss methods for gaining control over all aspects of the process with industry experts. This workshop makes extensive use of printed samples, practical densitometer exercises, and even live printing to teach students how to master the task of printing process color. Students are encouraged to bring in samples of their production problems for personalized help throughout the week.

Learn how to:

  • Use a densitometer to measure and control density and percent dot
  • Control critical variables in color separations
  • Create a screen to produce quality four-color prints
  • Troubleshoot and analyze print results
  • Implement a step-by-step process for "fingerprinting" your press
  • Gauge process printing variables and their affect on color reproduction

Four days - Maximum: 12 students
Prerequisite: Basic understanding of screen printing.
Members -- $699
All others -- $850

Tuition includes: resource notebook, continental breakfast and lunch.
