In medicine, vital signs are basic measures of life and good health. Likewise, a business’s financials are the vital signs that immediately determine whether you need triage, treatment or just TLC. Just as your temperature, blood pressure and pulse are clear gauges of your body's health, your financials are the black-and-white indicators of your company's health. When I do a business makeover, I begin with your company’s numbers because they are the tools against which you measure your progress. If you can monitor something, you can affect it.
