Bay Area District Air Permitting Issues

Written October 17, 2019

The owners of the select types of equipment that operate within the Bay Area must register their equipment with the Air District. The registration process allows for the operation of the equipment within the San Francisco Bay Area without a Permit to Operate, provided the equipment meets the published regulatory criteria. These registrations must be renewed periodically on a schedule set forth by the Air District.

Graphic Arts operations are an identified process group. Any owner or operator conducting a graphic arts operation that emits facility-wide a minimum of 75 pounds, but less than 400 pounds of volatile organic compounds (VOC) per month, must register the operation by July 1, 2009. If the facility’s emissions are greater than 400 pounds of VOCs per month, then a permit to operate is required.
