Cloth/Fabric/Material Cutter

Job Summary

Lays up and spreads fabric preparatory to cutting, and operates portable electric fabric cutter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arrange rolls of material to be spread according to production information.
  • Lie up and spread material on table to required length and number of layers specified.
  • Adhere paper template to top layer with pins or adhesive or mark material.
  • Obtain electric fabric cutter and metal mesh protective glove.
  • Cut multiple layers of material into parts for garments, canvas goods, bags, or other articles, keeping cuts straight and piles even, following pattern or markings.
  • Sharpen cutter blade or change blades as necessary.
  • Enter production information on cut order sheet as required including cut number, fabric designation, color number, dye lot, quantity, etc.
  • Clean up spread table, separating cutting waste according to color and disposing of scrap properly.
  • Clean electric fabric cutter, lubricate, and store.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to management, outside resources, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
