Color Training for your Business

In this SGIA Color Management Boot Camp, you will learn from SGIA certified instructors about color theory and principles, goals of color management, device calibration, time-tested procedures, newest print standards, spot colors, and print verification.

This boot camp is conducted at SGIA Headquarters, 10015 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22031.

Although some color concepts are common across the printing industry (offset, flexo, screen), SGIA's exclusive workshop concentrates on the unique aspects of large format inkjet.

Ray WeissRay Weiss, Director of Digital Print Programs for SGIA, joined the Association in 2014. He assists association members with technical information on digital printing as well as digital equipment, materials, and vendor referrals. He oversees training and certification workshops at SGIA along with the Association’s Digital Equipment Evaluation program. Ray is project manager for both the PDAA Certification program and SGIA's Digital Color Professional Certification program and is an instructor for the Color Management Boot Camps. Ray regularly contributes to the Association's Journal and won the 2016 Swormstedt Award for Best in Class writing in the Digital Printing category.  Outside of work, Ray enjoys biking, international cuisine and spending time with his three fantastic grandkids.

Travis BarcelonaTravis has been in the printing industry for over 25 years and has a technical background in screen printing and inkjet technology.  He holds service certifications for several wide and grand format inkjet brands along with certifications for most of the major RIP software programs.  Travis is a G7 certified expert and teaches courses in color management and inkjet technology at SGIA, colleges, in the office, and at customer locations.  He understands all principles of inkjet printing from data processing, color management, media, ink chemistry, equipment operation, UV technology, fluid dynamics, amongst other topics that relate to the inkjet printing process.  Travis has travelled globally teaching this technology and resides at Nazdar Ink Technologies Corporate office in Kansas City with whom he has been employed with for 20 years.  

Jim RaffelJim Raffel is a color management consultant who also serves as CEO of ColorCasters, LLC and ColorMetrix Technologies LLC. As a veteran of the printing industry and a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology’s acclaimed printing management program, in 1995 he formed ColorMetrix to bring an idea he had to make color measurement and evaluation easier by creating easy-to-use software solutions. Today as a certified G7 expert and color management professional, his consulting practice focuses on dye sublimation and flat-bed UV inkjet printing. This work keeps him on the road many weeks each year working with end users and manufacturers to improve their color management processes. He has also been authorized by SGIA to conduct their color management boot camps; in both open venues for anyone to attend and in closed venues for clients and their staff.
