SGIA presented 49 coveted 2017 Product of the Year medallions to winners at an exclusive reception, Monday, October 10 — the evening before the Expo opened. Of the 222 entries this year — which were displayed in the Golden Image Gallery during the Expo — 49 were awarded the top honor.
“The Product of the Year Awards presentation was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the digital printing industry with all the winners of the sought-after Product of the Year jewel. For those attending (and most did attend) we had an enjoyable time networking before the awards were handed out,” said Ray Weiss, Digital Imaging Specialist, SGIA. “Because the judging was two months before the Expo, everyone took away their actual award — with the engraved plate — to display in their booth when the Expo opened. What a great way to kick off the show!”
This year’s competition saw several new categories, including die-cutters, automation equipment, RIP and workflow software, and finished garment blanks.
“The uptick in the number of fabrics entered underlines the surge in printing to fabric. In fact, this year we saw the most entries ever in dye sublimation and direct-to-fabric printing,” Weiss added.
“The quality of the Expo has to be in the top one or two that we’ve ever been to, in terms of customers, leads and quality of conversations. And, taking home SGIA’s Product of the Year award was more than icing on the cake,” EL Hatton’s Rick Hatton said. “It’s kind of the cake, really.”
